NOMADIC TOYS is an independent jewelry brand founded by Takasugi Shizuyo.
All works are designed by the artist herself and created in her small studio in Kyoto, Japan.

Following earlier explorations into wearable interpretations of drawings,she began to pursue a nomadic approach to art-making — one that is not limited by materials or the act of wearing. The artist gradually came to focus on jewelry as “treasures that can be carried, freely shared with others, and cherished for a long time.”

From this perspective, the brand was named NOMADIC TOYS.

The name has been in use since around 2022.

ARTIST

Takasugi received a Bachelor’s degree in Aesthetics from Kyoto University of the Arts. Her graduation thesis, “Dissolution of Fantastic Forms: The Circular Movement of Toy Play,” which explored toys and play in human experience, received an academic award from her department. She later studied contemporary art at an alternative art school once existed in Osaka.

Through both her artistic practice and her experience of motherhood, she gradually began questioning why artworks were often confined to walls, display platforms, and interior spaces. This inquiry led her to transform drawings into three-dimensional works using various materials, reconstructing them as wearable forms.

Later, inspired by her longstanding interest in contemporary jewelry, she began studying metalworking at Hiko Mizuno Jewelry College in Osaka after the age of forty. Following approximately two years of production and experimentation, she launched NOMADIC TOYS as a jewelry brand in July 2026.
